Pat Strangefluff insisted the holodeck show her what she does not want to remember, as not knowing what it is, is the only thing worse.
Pat was with her father at the launch of the Wobble Goblin. Once again, her father had created the 'must have' toy of the year!

But as she grew older, her desires outstripped her father's ability to enact them. Pat began to be embarrassed by the Wobble Goblins.
Pat was growing up, and considered herself practically a Princess because of all the money her father had made. She wanted better things.

Doctor Strangefluff saw that he would have to exceed the capabilities of the society that he lived in to please his daughter ---
Doctor Shabnath Strangefluff had not thought of such things since he escaped the destruction of Pi Centauri, eons ago.

Some ideas are so twisted that they can appear to be sensible to a genius, if he doesn't stop to think how a simpler mind would see them.
Pat was lost for words.

Alone with the ya-wossname, an excited Pat asks it how it came into being.
And then the truth emerged. Her father had taken one half of the brain of each of her turtles to give thoughts to her birthday present.

Thus the deep love between father and daughter turned to bitter ice. Pat repressed all but the wobblegogs, and rebelled all she could.
Whereas Shabnath Strangefluff vowed that he would one day prove to his daughter that he had done the right, the only thing that he could.
