What is this thing, society, we're told must take the blame?
It's found at fault for everything that bears a shameful name.
How can we be so sure that it must be the one at fault,
for everything from pregnancy in teens, to street assault?
What does it mean, society - if not just me and you?
Why are we all at fault for things that others choose to do?
It seems no crime is blameable on those who break our laws;
instead, the honest multitude must somehow be the cause.
How did the villain come to think that all he did was right?
Why does the law incriminate, when victims turn to fight?
It's those that don't enforce the law
that ought to bear the shame -
elitist legal cliques that say "society's to blame!"
