Portrait of the Artist as a Lone Tree | Faith | |
The abandoned Father
Now since you think autistic people strange,
with thoughts and minds entirely out of range,
consider this - and wonder at the love
of Him who waits so patiently above;
but few and little words our lips could bring
would warm the far and long-forgotten King.
Instead, the world ignores with scorn his care.
The lost and lonely children blink and stare;
they wonder why their families ever ask -
communication seeming such a task.
Autism acts surprised; we ask it why
it cannot meet the love within our eye?
What we would want for worship, which we miss
is looks of longing as they turn to kiss.
